Michael John Pratt (7 June 1931 – 10 July 1976) was an English actor, singer, lyricist, and playwright who rose to prominence in the 1960s and 1970s on British television.
Mike Pratt began his career in advertising while also taking on part-time acting assignments.
In the mid-1950s, he abandoned his office job.
He then travelled around Europe in an old-style London taxi with three pals (including Lionel Bart).
When he returned to England, he worked in London clubs as a jazz and skiffle player.
He was an outstanding guitarist and pianist who, with his friend Tommy Steele, jammed with the Vipers Skiffle Group at the 2 I’s club in London in the 1950s.
In a 1950s Pathé News clip, Pratt can be seen jamming skiffle with other musicians of the day, including members of the Shadows.
(a citation is required) Pratt was a prolific songwriter who worked on many of Steele’s early singles with Bart and Steele in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
Steele, Bart, and Pratt wrote twelve songs in seven days to enable Steele to begin filming his life narrative.
Mike Pratt cause of death
Mike Pratt died in July 1976 of lung cancer. In August of that year, a play in his honor was produced at London’s Aldwych Theatre.
Glenda Jackson, Kenneth Haigh, and John Le Mesurier were among the cast members.
